ShareSpace: Building connections and collaboration between Deaf and hearing artists, creatives and cultural organisations in the Black Country (and beyond) – with Deaf Explorer and Deafscope Link
This event will be BSL interpreted and several of the panel members will be Deaf.
Ishtiaq Hussain (VV artist and Director of Deafscope Link) will host this event, which aims to open up conversation on how we can build more and better collaboration and communication in the Black Country (and beyond) between Deaf and hearing artists, creatives, producers and cultural organisations.
Deaf Explorer and Deafscope Link will be joined by a panel of artists and organisations who will be sharing great examples of collaboration between Deaf and hearing artists and organisations (and lessons learned when things haven’t been right first time).
Deaf Explorer and Deafscope will be joined by:
Kelly Parish – Arts Council England
Maggie Lewis – Black Country Dance Hub
Mary-Jayne Russell de Clifford – Theatre facilitator, director, scriptwriter, BSL storyteller, BSL poet, BSL consultant, producer and mentor.
Adrian B Earle – Writer, poet and media maker, Think Write Fly

We will be discussing:
What can we all do collectively to build more and better collaboration and communication in the Black Country (and beyond) between Deaf artists and producers, hearing-led organisations, hearing artists and producers and Deaf-led organisations?
Beyond booking a BSL interpreter, how do we make events and opportunities accessible for Deaf people?
What are the channels of communication that will ensure Deaf artists and audiences find out about opportunities?
How do we ensure Deaf artists and audiences feel safe, respected and valued within cultural spaces and events?
What are the common mistakes people make when trying to make events and opportunities accessible for Deaf people?
