Visual Vernacular Workshop

  • Lynn West, Rye

I really appreciated Ishtaiq’s interaction with the participants, he was very encouraging.

I plan to practice on my own in private! I will pick one story line and add more and more detail. Perhaps when I am ready I will film the story.

I would like to attend more workshops.

VV will benefit my work with Deaf people that have limited use of BSL.

  • Martin Jenkins, Cardiff

I want to be become VV artist

  • Marie Jensen, Stoke-On-Trent

Ish’s VV Workshop was both insightful and beautiful. His delivery was very clear and at a good pace.

I am more confident to make my own Interpretations more visual, thus making it more accessible to my audience and clients.

    Brilliant workshop. Thank you! 😊

  • Lesley Weatherson, Portsmouth

The visual vernacular is a skill that interpreters should use more often- we just don’t always know how. This course expands one’s knowledge and skills in a safe space to try and try again. I left feeling two things- 1) I want to learn more about VV and B) I plan to use it more when interpreting.  Ish’s teaching skills are excellent. Each section/skill set explained in a fun but educational way- highly recommended.

  • Evelyn Davenport, London

I will definitely be recommending the workshop to the London and SE ASLI group.

It was an evening well spent. I enjoyed it as much as going to the theatre! Quality course with ample opportunity given for us to experiment and participate.

    Very many thanks Ish.

  • Sam Tucker, Birmingham

Ishtiaq shows how it is possible to embody the character of a person, animal, or thing.  He visually creates a story in a way that is totally captivating.

  • Morgan Dunsford, Bristol

I couldn’t recommend Ish’s VV World workshop enough! Ish had me engaged for the entire 2 hours, the time really flew by! As a second language user of BSL this was a great session to learn about the linguistics that make up the elements of VV and to give it a go in a safe and comfortable environment. As well as understand the art and creative expression that is at the heart of VV performances. Ish provided us with a master class in VV, himself being so talented, I could watch his VV all day! Do not hesitate to get yourself booked onto a workshop.

  • Claire Anderson, Cardiff

Really good training! Enjoyed the pace and learning about Ish’s background. Thank you so much for contacting me when there was a last-minute space available!

I learnt a lot and wish I could bottle it up!! Ish makes it look so beautiful and very very clear. The order, pace of movement and rhythm, was a joy to watch.

  • Carol-Anne McGlennon, Paisley

Excellent delivery, very clear overview of what is needed for VV (examples given throughout), delivered in a very friendly, informal fashion. The two hours flew in and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!

  • Karen Pane, Northwich

I really enjoyed the workshop, I learnt a lot, the teaching was clear, well explained and gave me acti9vities involving VV which was good. I realize I have to learn a lot. I do hope to join next level VV workshop! Look forward to the next one! Thank you
